About this site
bereadyforemergency.online is an independent guide to the UK government's Be Ready campaign — the national resilience drive launched by the Cabinet Office on 22 October 2026, asking households to be ready for three days of disruption from storms, floods, wildfires, power cuts, water failures or cyberattacks.
We started this site because the campaign matters and the headlines around it don't always help. Some coverage has framed Be Ready as a call to stockpile; the government's actual message is quieter and more practical — build up a few basics gradually, know where your torch is, write down your phone numbers, and sign up to the Priority Services Register if you might need extra help in an outage. This site explains what the campaign really asks, item by item, in plain English.
Everything here is based on official sources: the campaign site at beready.campaign.gov.uk, GOV.UK guidance, the Priority Services Register at thepsr.co.uk, and the government's published statements and research. Where we give practical tips — like how to build your kit cheaply over a few weeks — those are our own suggestions, clearly presented as such, and they never contradict the official advice.
We are not the government. We are not affiliated with the Cabinet Office, and nothing on this site is an official communication. For the official campaign, always go to beready.campaign.gov.uk. Our disclaimer sets this out in full.
If you spot something we've got wrong, or you have a practical tip worth sharing with other readers, use the contact page — the discussions on this site are the fastest way to reach us.
What you'll find here: the homepage gives the full picture of the campaign in one read; our checklist guide walks through every official item; the budget guide shows how to build the kit a few pounds at a time; and the Priority Services Register guide covers the free sign-up that helps vulnerable households most. The download page hosts the government's own one-page checklist PDF, linked straight from the campaign site.
